The Porter History-Social Science Resource Room may be used by students who are taking classes at the campus and as a reference library for classroom teachers of the various school districts in the Coachella Valley. The goal is to provide local-area educators access to quality instructional materials that will foster the development of social science skills, including history, geography, economics and political science.
A second goal of the Porter Resource Room is to enhance the reputation of California State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus as an educational leader in the social science field. Numerous professional development Institute activities are sponsored for local area teachers.
Currently, the facility focuses on materials and activities for elementary school teachers with professional support for middle school and high school teachers. All resource materials are aligned to the California History-Social Science Standards and are housed in a library type format.
