SATURDAY, SEPT. 14: Your exciting tour begins with a morning flight from PSP to Washington, D.C. Private transfer from the airport to the historic, elegant Mayflower Hotel in the heart of D.C. Your luggage will be delivered to your room after check-in. Welcome to the nation’s capital! Evening free.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 15: In the morning, we depart the hotel for a short drive to the marina, where we’ll board a yacht and enjoy the views and narration as we cruise along the beautiful Potomac River to George & Martha Washington’s home, Mount Vernon. At the estate, we’ll have a tour of the mansion, plus free time to explore the grounds, outbuildings, tomb, and pioneer farm. No host lunch at the estate. We’ll return to the hotel via motorcoach. Evening free.
MONDAY, SEPT. 16: This morning’s panoramic city tour features many of Washington, D.C.’s famous landmarks, including the White House, U.S. Capitol, Smithsonian museums, Mall memorials, Georgetown, Kennedy Center, Ford’s Theatre, and more. Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure, then join us for a late afternoon champagne reception at the hotel. As the sun goes down, we’ll set out for a breathtakingly beautiful tour of the capital’s world-famous memorials and monuments by moonlight, with plenty of photo stops.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 17: We travel by motorcoach to Gettysburg, PA, the site of the Civil War’s bloodiest battle and the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln’s immortal Gettysburg Address. You can visit the museum and the famous cyclorama painting, then grab lunch at the museum cafeteria before boarding the bus for a private guided tour of the battlefield. After the tour, we return to the hotel. Evening free.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 18: Today is completely open to spend relaxing or touring any of the city’s amazing sites or museums. You may choose to join us for an optional lecture by the National Park Service before taking in the Smithsonian museums or other highlights. Tonight offers an optional dinner and performance at the Kennedy Center. Ask about the details if you’re interested.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 19: This morning we’re off to Arlington National Cemetery to pay tribute to those who’ve dedicated their lives to defending the ideals of our nation. Your narrated tram tour includes the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Kennedy gravesites. Then we head for Old Town Alexandria for a no-host lunch stop and panoramic city tour. The balance of the afternoon is on your own. Tonight, enjoy our farewell dinner at Old Ebbitt Grill, Washington’s oldest saloon (now restaurant), founded in 1856.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 20: Time to say goodbye to our nation’s capital as we board our private shuttle back to the airport for our return flight to Palm Springs.
