Reading Certificate 6 courses (24 units)
The Reading Certificate Program allows K-12 teachers to earn an added authorization on their credential in the area of reading and language arts. The focus of the program is on developing an understanding of the foundations of literacy acquisition, providing students with appropriate and meaningful strategy instruction based on formal and standardized assessments, and developing an understanding of the role of the teacher as a literacy leader in the community.

ERDG 620: Foundations of Reading and Writing
ERDG 658: Literacy and Language Processes
Quarter Two
ERDG 640: Early Intervention Strategies
ERDG 642: Images of Culture through Children’s Literature
Quarter Three
ERDG 625: Practicum in Reading and Writing
ERDG 622: Basic Materials and Approaches to Reading and Writing

Application Process:
Step One: Admission to the University and to the program - apply online at CSUMentor
Step Two: Complete a Program Plan Form during your final quarter of the program
Step Three: Apply through Student Services for your Reading Certificate
Important notes: Transcripts from all colleges you have attended are needed for the application process; you must hold a current California Single or Multiple Subject Teaching Credential to be admitted to the program, and you must have 3 years of full time verified teaching experience to apply for the certificate.
