PDC Green Building
We are very proud of the newest addition to our campus, the Palm Desert Health Sciences Building. Named after the City of Palm Desert for donating the land for the campus and financially contributing to the building's construction, the building opened fall of 2008 and is LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). In fact, the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) has approved the Palm Desert Health Sciences Building for Gold LEED certification.
Sustainable design (also referred to as “green design”) is the art of designing physical objects to comply with the principles of economic, social and ecological sustainability. The essential aim of sustainable design is to produce places, products and services in a way that reduces use of non-renewable resources, minimizes environmental impacts, and relates to people with the natural environment.
LEED Certification is the recognized standard for measuring building sustainability which follows the US Green Building Council guidelines through project planning, design, construction and commissioning. Three standards exist: silver, gold and platinum. Other LEED certified buildings in the Coachella Valley include the Palm Desert Visitor's Center, the Henderson Community Center and The Vista Dunes Courtyard homes project.
The building cost a total of $14.5 million to actualize the architect's goals of energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, creating a seamless transition outside to in, while simultaneously advocating community health.

The building contains the Helene A. Hixon Information Resource Center (the electronic library), the R.D. and Joan Dale Hubbard Student Health and Psychological Counseling Center, Title V Supplemental Instruction assistance, the La Quinta Nursing Skills lab, and other nursing, health, nutrition, and biology classes.
Currently we are exibiting original artwork by local artist Nancy Nieto who celebrates Mexican culture and art through her paintings.
