Priscilla & Charles Porter History/Social Science Resource Room
OVERVIEW
The goal of the Porter Resource Room is to provide local area educators access to quality instructional materials that will foster the development of social science skills, including history, geography, economics and political science. The resource room may be used by students who are taking classes at the campus and as a reference library for classroom teachers of the various school districts in the Coachella Valley.
A second goal of the Porter Resource Room is to enhance the reputation of California State University San Bernardino, Palm Desert Campus as an educational leader in the social science field. Numerous professional development Institute activities are sponsored for local area teachers.

Charles Porter is the former president of Dominguez Water Corporation and the founder of Academic WorldQuest, a competition for high school students sponsored by the World Affairs Council of the Desert. Dr. Priscilla Porter is Professor Emeritus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, and she is the senior author of Reflections, a Kindergarten to Grade 6 social studies textbook series published by Harcourt School Publishers. Dr. Porter is a recipient of the California Council for the Social Studies prestigious Hilda Taba Award.

Currently, the facility focuses on materials and activities for elementary school teachers with expansion planned to the middle school and high school level. All of the resource materials are aligned to the California History-Social Science Standards and are housed in a library type format.
