- About the Speaker: Dr. Michael
Toman is Director, Environment, Energy, and
Economic Development Program, RAND Infrastructure, Safety, and Environment.
Dr. Toman was Senior economist, Environment
Division, Sustainable Development at the
Inter-American Development Bank, Senior
Fellow, Resources for the Future, and Senior
Staff Economist, Council of Economic
Advisers, Executive Office of the President.
Dr. Toman has his B.A. in economics and math
from Indiana University, his M.Sc. in
applied mathematics from Brown University,
and his Ph.D. and M.A. in economics from the
University of Rochester; He is co-editor of
the book Economic Development and
Environmental Sustainability: New Options
published by Oxford University Press in
2006.

- Dr. Michael Toman's area of expertise are
climate change mitigation, sustainable development,
energy markets and energy security, and
environmental policy. His recent work has been in
the
areas of energy and national security, expenditure
and greenhouse gas implications of increased
renewable energy use in the United States, and
options for effective and publicly accepted policies
for reducing greenhouse gases in the United States.
