Larry Gelbart
The entertainment industry mourns the death of Mr. Gelbart. In honor of his fine work and reputation, the Indian Wells Theater will “go dark” on October 24.
Larry Gelbart began as a writer at the age of 16 for Danny Thomas’ radio show during the 1940s and also wrote for Jack Paar and Bob Hope. Later, Gelbart wrote the long-running Broadway farce A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with Burt Shevelove and Stephen Sondheim in 1962. In 1972, Gelbart was one of the main forces behind the creation of the television series M*A*S*H, writing and producing many episodes. Gelbart also wrote the screenplays to Oh, God! and Blame it on Rio, and in 1982, co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Tootsie. Gelbart’s other Broadway credits include: the musical City of Angels, Mastergate, and Sly Fox. TV credits include the cable TV-movie Barbarians at the Gate.
Jerry Van Dyke

Jerry Van Dyke is the younger brother of comedian and actor Dick Van Dyke, and made his acting debut on The Dick Van Dyke Show with several guest appearances as Rob Petrie's brother, Stacey. Van Dyke began his stand-up comedy career while still in high school, and was already a veteran of strip joints and nightclubs when he joined the Air Force Special Services in 1952. During the mid-Fifties Van Dyke worked at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Indiana.
In the service he performed at military bases around the world, twice winning the All Air Force Talent Show. Following his first guest appearances on The Dick Van Dyke Show and two appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, CBS made him a regular on The Judy Garland Show.
Peter Marshall

Peter Marshall is best known for his stint as game show host for the hit Hollywood Squares. After, he appeared in many television and movie roles, most notably with a cameo in the 1982 film version of the musical Annie, playing fictional radio personality Bert Healy. Marshall’s Broadway credits include Skyscraper, La Cage aux Folles and The Music Man. As of 2000, Marshall had returned to the travelling circuit, this time as a singer with Big Bands.
